First Time For Everything

Posted by: tredc on: October 25, 2008

Unfortunately, I had my first (and hopefully only) experience with being the actual “killer” in a roadkill incident. I was on my way to see “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”. I was so excited but I wasn’t driving fast or anything like that. I was actually still on my little isolated road (the one I live on). A squirrel darted out and I slowed down a good little bit. When I thought he had passed I pressed on the gas a little. The second that I did that I heard that heart-wrenching thud. It was terrible! I already knew what had happened, but I still checked my rearview mirror to be sure. Well, I guessed right. I had always said that if this were to ever happen to me, I would get out and pull the animal to the side of the road so that everyone else’s tires won’t turn him into mush. However, now that I was actually in the situation I could pull myself to do it. I didn’t want to see what I had done again. I have sooooo many animals and it could have easily been one of them. Well, you guessed it… I started crying. Yes, I’m a sap but it really was sad. I can’t wait to get my tires changed. Sorry little squirrel. :(

Okay, so you know how I feel about squirrels already (reference our convo last week about the freezer incident), but trust me you would rather run over one, than swerve and hit a tree head on. There was a girl I went to high school with who had to wear a metal, full body brace thing because she swerved to miss a squirrel. From that point on, I vowed never to do so. Plus, remember the Geico commecial?!!
